Thanks for the response. I'm pretty sure I can remove the side molding.
However the strips i'm refering to run from the TOP of the rear turn light.
It seems to be a part of a weld. It is approx. 1/4 of an inch wide and is
painted the same color as the rest of the car (in my case that last point
is still up for grabs as I've counted at least 4 colors to date). The same
ones (but shorter) seem to join the front quarter panel to the body. I
think I know how to get to those. Any hints for the rear ones?
