Running with too low octane rating can cause pinking, running too lean can
cause pinking, running with timing too advanced or too retarded can cause
pinking, excessive carbon build-up can cause pinking. 

However, running with too high octane rating is unlikely to cause pinking,
since the octane rating is a measure of how resistant the gas is to
detonation (pinking). The higer the number, the more resistant. I say
'unlikely' because there are different methods of measuring this and
different factors can cause anomalous results. 

However, a little pinking is not going to damage the engine.
