Ray,

Although the one-wire alternator is a god-send to the street rod crowd, I
don't recomend it for use on an LBC, for three reasons:

1) It is considerably more expensive than the standard GM alternator,

2) The advantage of the one-wire - its simplicity of connections - is lost on
an LBC. The wires needed to connect up the standard unit are already in place,
and must be disconnected and tied off to use the one-wire unit. As much
knowledge is required to do that as to connect the standard unit, so nothing
is gained,

3) You lose the function of the alternator warning light. The one-wire unit
does not have provisions for driving this lamp. Since it is on the dash, and
provides good information, it seems a waste not to use it.

Physically, the one-wire is identical to the standard unit, and Larry Hoy has
posted directions for installing it on an MGB. I'm sure he would do it again
if asked.

I'm running a GM unit on my TR6, and I am quite happy with it. 62 amps, and
$29.99 plus core.
