Seconded. I changed the points in my V8, set them up with a gauge, ran the
engine,
and checked the gap again. The engine really ran poorly. Started checking all
sorts - including the gap again - no luck. I bought a dwell meter and found
that
instead of being at 24 degrees they were only at 17. Took about two minutes to
reset them as the V8 distributor has an external adjustment for points gap (why
aren't all distributors built that way?).

Out of interest I checked roadster, which is running fine, and found the dwell
was
about 4 degrees out but still just in spec.
