I have used teflon tape with success on other cars. A fresh washer
doesn't hurt as well on cars that are so equipped.

Any "hot" wheel rims after a short run? Sometimes rear cylinders
and shoes will seize on over the winter.

There are a couple of ways, but IMHO the easiest way is this:
- Turn the engine over with wrench or by pushing car in fourth until
desired timing mark is lined up.
- Clip the alligator clip of the test light to something that is
"hot". I use the bottom fuse in my MGB and Midget, that's the
always hot fuse.
- Hold the tip of the test light on the spade terminal on the side
of the distributor cap. This is grounded through the points when
the points are CLOSED, which will make a circuit and light the
light.
- Spin the distributor anti-clockwise a bit, the light should come on
as the points close.
- Slowly turn the distributor clockwise, this way the rotor is turning
the same way in the distributor as when the car is running. Turn the
distributor carefully until the test light JUST goes off, then
tighten
everything down. You are done.
Be sure to turn the distributor that way for the "final" pass,
otherwise
the rotor is going the other way from in operation and slack might
work against you.
