David,
 The biggest single reason to use the Bosch gapping tool is so you can
tell all you're friends you have the special Bosch gapping tool. (Gee
Whiz factor = +3)
 A regular wire plug gauge is just fine thanks, and does the same job at
about 1/2 the price.
 Don't use a flat feeler gauge to gap plugs (of any type), as it will
give a false reading due to the concave wear of the ground electrode. The
flat gauge will bridge the concaved area and show a narrower gap than
actuality.
