I am now the very proud owner of a 1966 MGB :)

As I sat in the driver's seat for the first time, letting my nose
fill with the smell of old leather and oil, I could almost feel the car
reacting to me too, getting used to me, asking when it will see the open
road and the twisting highways and lush forests of British Columbia
(it's been sitting mostly unused in a parking garage). This is not a tired
car, a beaten spirit, one of identical millions sentanced to a life of
gridlock. Nor is it an arrogant car, oblivious from its surroundings and
trying to protect its occupants from the world around it. This is a living
thing, a car with a soul and with one desire, to experience the freedom and
joy that is motoring.

I know that this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

Now begins the labour of love, the rolling restoration :) I gave it a
really good hand wash this evening, its looking much better already.
Next is several coats of wax and polishing all the chrome... I'm sure
I can get the shine back with a little effort.

Next weekend is the All British Field Meet here in Vancouver!! I hope to
meet a few listies there, although I have no idea how we will recognize
each other. My new friend is in need of quite a few little parts here
and there so I'm really looking forward to the autojumble on Sunday.

The weekend after, I think we will be going on our first trip, down the
I5 to Seattle... not too exciting but a safe way to get used to the
personality of the car. The weekend after though, I think I'll go
upcountry to see my Mom, I'm really looking forward to driving the
Hope-Princeton highway with the top down and the engine roaring...

:)
