I bought this motor, and it had supposedly been newly rebuilt. Couple
hundred miles max on the new pistons. However, upon disassembly, it
appeared to have been merely freshened, new pistons and rings and throw it
back together. I've had the block honed as the cylinders were good, align
hone mains, new bearings, reconditioned rods, ground the crank, balanced,
resurface flywheel. The head is being done now. So, in my opinion, this
is a new rebuild. No compression check before the machine shop work
though.

Given that I've taken the time to get all the other stuff done, I don't
want to mess up, even though at least one of my MG advice buddies thinks I
don't need new rings. It makes sense to go ahead and replace them to me.
This being my first rebuild, I don't always know how far is too far, when
considering what else to have done. Thanks, Nina
