On that subject, when last I went to Pep Boys for a new group 26 battery,
I found that it wouldn't fit! The battery had a sort of stabilizing skirt
at the bottom that was substantial enough that I didn't want to risk piercing
the case to cut it off. So I went back, and they gave me a cheaper battery,
that fit on the bottom but had a lip at the top. The lip was thin, though,
so I hacksawed it off. So a group 26 is no guarantee that it will be a
drop-in replacement.
Another caveat, when I purchased the battery, I told the guy I wanted an
inexpensive battery. He gave me an 84-month battery for $69. When I went
back to return it, he came up with a 48-month battery for $45. So they
tend to push the expensive batteries, even unethically.
The case of 84-month battery was substantially wider, in addition to the lip.
