Hey all,

Well I managed to remove my motor and gearbox today and was surprised at how
easy it was compared to the preparation up to that point. Thanks to all who
gave their advice on that one. I installed two small head studs, in the
front and rear most holes in the block. I placed some chain over the two
studs and then wrapped the motor three times with the rest of the chain,
finally bringing the chain back up onto the studs for a second pass. I
secured the chain with large sockets, a washer and a head bolt. This
distrubuted the weight nicely and the whole lot moved easily and under
control. I moved the motor up a bit too quickly at first and the gearbox
interfered with the firewall, after I realised this the whole thing was out
in 5 minutes. :) A couple of mates were over for Australia day, so this made
the whole process easier, having someone to check underneath the car, and
someone to make minor horizontal adjustments.

Now for the bad news. <G> Well, I managed to seperate the motor from the
gearbox pretty easily, the shaft appears to have a good 1/8" play in it, so
I guess there's probably a bearing somewhere that needs replacing. I'll look
into that one later. Boy is that gearbox filthy!! As I was intending on
putting the engine on a stand I removed the clutch, and then tried to remove
the bolts holding the flywheel. Hmm!! I got all bar one out, this little
sucker rounded after the *first* attempt!! I'm using a 3/4" socket for this,
a 11/16" is too small, so I *think* I have the right size - unless these
bolts are special.. Anyway, how on earth can I remove this last bolt? A
socket, spanner, pipe extension etc won't move it, it's too rounded now
anyway. Do I go buy an angle grinder and try to cut it off or do I try and
drill the bugger out? Ideas?

I guess when something goes as smoothly as it did today, something has to
bite you in the a** to give you that reality check. <G>

Happy Australia Day everyone, and Happy Birthday to my BGT. 29 years young
today!! :)

Today it was around 90F, sunny skies, prawns, steaks and sangers (sausages)
on the barby. I can't remember what I drank. <G>

Cheers,
Neil.
