Or use 3" drywall screws, with the square drive head.  That way you take
it apart and move it when you move.  If you spend the time to make it
just the right height, and install the vise in just the right place, why
give it up.

One the otherhand, mine is topped with 2x10's.  Which at this time are
black from MGB upchuck, so I'll srub her down soon, paint with an oil
pabed primer, the a coat of paint, adn get back to work.

With this in mind, if I spent 100-200 on a store bought bench, I'd be
sick about scratching it, or getting it greasy.

Make your own, It's will be sturdier, fit to spot just right, and if all
else fils, it make a great bar for when the guys are over!
