And wouldn't the elimination of all of these ammenities allow the car
(or something of the same vein) to be built and sold for a reasonable
amount of money?

I would think that if you could kick out 1000 - 2500 cars a year that
there'd be a little money in it to boot.  There most be demand for 2500
cars a year and the infrastructure for their maintenance is already in
place.
