This is the info that Tab sent to me from an earlier post regarding the
handbrake/starter issue:

"I found this NAMGBR technote and want to make sure I understand it
properly....

"Also, in the 1977 - 1980 models, a failure of the brake warning light
diode can allow the engine to start when the handbrake is pulled UP!"

That is, the diode bites the dust, then one day you pull up the handbrake
and the engine starts? Maybe the tales of Lucas aren't all that farfetched
after all... Sheesh.

Checking my diodes..."

Then Paul Hunt wrote:

"If it only does it when the handbrake is pulled up then the brake-test
diode
has gone short-circuit. This is located (I think) on the RHS firewall up
behind the dash and had a red/white wire on one end and two green/orange on
the other.

Sounds like the diode needs to be checked.
