I think that once you leave the larger cities there were nice homes available 
for that kind of money.  I remember that My folks bought a very nice home in 
a Boston suburb on an acre lot for about $14,000 in 1961, reasonable homes 
were available for less at the time.  In 1968 I was still able to get a 
decent home in Chicago's suburbs for around $16,000.  Ten years later the sky 
was the limit and no relief in sight around here.
