MG book sighting

I just finished reading Hammer of Eden by Ken Follett.  Actually an 
excellent page-turner of a book.

It takes place in or around 1998.

Early on, one of the lead characters makes a comment.  She is a lawyer with 
the district attorney's office and is offered a job by a law firm that 
could pay her "triple her current salary".

She muses that she would then be able to tool around in a sports car, 
"maybe a Porsche or a MG".
