We should all try to remember that in 1962 all people had seen from the MG
marque were curvy MGA's, stylish T-series and the other cars that preceded
them. This newfangled MGB with it's "boxy" look (compared to the "A"), metal
floorboards, and no side-curtains must have been an ugly, too-modern sight to
those folks who longed for the days when cars were built with a "sense of
style".
Most of what we perceive as "charm and character" is based on what we've seen
in the recent past. In modern times the CBB's and even the RBB's are being
seen as charming and historical.
I would be thrilled to have an MGF or other MG car in my driveway, and to watch
it go from a modern car to a really cool old car - just like my '67 MGB did!
