Check the carburetor float bowls for fuel.  If empty, as someone else
already mentioned, remove the output hose from the fuel pump and see if
it's pumping.  Before doing this, make sure you have fuel in the tank.
Also check condition of the fuel hoses there, if they're forty years old,
they may be collapsed inside, or have cracks that let air in or fuel out.
Replace if necessary.  There may be a blockage in the fuel pickup tube
that runs from the tank to the pump.  Disconnect this line and try to blow
through it into the tank.
