Thanks for the confirmation of my memory.

Of course, tread patterns, compounds, sidewall construction are relevant 
factors as well. And to be really esoteric, I recall some technical articles 
on tire "hysteresis." Apparently, a combination of compound and construction 
that results in a "bouncy" tire as opposed to one adheres to road 
irregularities better.

I think we've beaten this one enough.
