It's not surprising that CD players are too deep, when you consider that 
the CD itself is 12cm in diameter. You could get a radio/cassette that 
fit the console, with a jack to hook up a portable CD player. You could 
even attach the CD player to the side of the console or the tunnel with 
velcro, so it would be removable, but wouldn't slide around on the seat 
or floor. While you have the velcro out, you could get surface mount 
speaker boxes (I'm thinking of the wedge-shaped ones with relatively 
small speakers, not the 10 inch circles), and attach them to the front of 
the rear shelf (is there enough space?) or the rear wheel arches, or 
wedge them between the seats and the doors. But there isn't a heck of a 
lot of space for that sort of thing in a Midget, as you've noticed.
