        Phil Grise, Big Bend MGs
What a grand place to visit Tallahassee, Florida is. If you didn't
know that when rendezvous 2001 was first announced late last summer, you
need only ask reporters from CNN, NBC, ABC, Reuters...you name it. They all
got to spend November 2000 in Tallahassee and the whole world was watching!
You must have been stuck under your old MG, cursing Lucas and deep into
repairs if you failed to see hours upon hours of Tallahassee landscape
through November and December.

Big Bend MGs apologizes for not planning our first national
gathering during Fall 2000. It was a whale of a party. There were no fewer
than 100 satellite transmission trucks parked all around the capitol. There
were no British Leyland trucks present, but a few Volvos. We could have
interspersed our MGs amongst the big trucks. What a sight that would have
been. Just a wee problem with no hotel rooms anywhere last year.

Then too, there's the Florida State Seminole football team, 1999
National Champions. They tried again at the Orange Bowl to become a
back-to-back champion team for both the last year of the old century and the
first year of the new, to no avail.

Whatever way you cut it, it was an exciting autumn in Tallahassee.
And we have learned what has the greatest impacts on MGs: Not a presidency,
but a lost football championship!

Because of a shift in schedules for the Seminoles, Big Bend MGs will
be double-clutching and adjusting plans backward one week for Rendezvous
2001. Our revised meeting time will be November 2-4, 2001 at the same
magnificent location, Ramada Inn North in Tallahassee at the intersection of
I-10 and U.S. 27. The activities will include the same wonder events and
friendship nonetheless.

If you've already registered, we'll be contacting you about the date
change, if you were just getting that checkbook out to sign on -- please
accept the apologies of a nation led by football. It's not ballot chads, the
Federal Civil Rights Commission exploring voter concerns, or even the early
blooming camillias that moves mountains and MGs in Tallahassee, it's
football.

We promise you a rousing weekend in town -- but probably not as
internationally newsworthy as a Rendezvous 2000 would have been.
