Anthony:
Use an ohmmeter to check resistance on the high tension cables.
1. Disconnect the cables from the spark plugs and remove the
distributor cap together with the high tension cables. DO NO
REMOVE THE CABLES FROM THE CAP.
2. Measure the resistance between the cable terminal on the sprak
plug side and the corresponding electrode inside the cap. The
HIGH tension cable resistance should be less than 30,000 ohms.
3. If the resistance is more than 30,000 ohms, remove the cable
from the cap and check the cable resistance only. If the
resistance is still more than the limit, replace the cable
assembly.
The other possibility is that the cap has a crack or there is a
carbon track between one or several of the electrodes inside, and
the spark is jumping across to the wrong terminal. Even NEW caps
and wires sometimes are faulty.
