The Splitfires were fairly new, from the look of them. The rest of your
comments echo the point I was trying to make.

I had not heard/read that the Bosch Plus 4 was for electronic ignition only,
and I have to say that premise seems counter-intuitive to me anyway. A spark
plug sees a charge of electricity which is generated by a coil. Whether the
coil is triggered by an electronic switch or by a set of points/condenser
surely makes no difference? The coil's output is limited by its internal
design and will not make more or less intense a spark just becuase the
switching mechanism is changed.

Fortunately, my years in the Midwest are long forgotten and I no longer have
to worry about trying to start a car in sub-zero temperatures. However, I'd
be surprised if a new set of Bosch Plus 4 plugs would accomplish a cold
start any better than a new set of conventional (good quality) single
electrode spark plugs. Warming the intake tract to vaporize the fuel mixture
better, and providing a fat spark via means of a 40K volt coil instead of
the 20K original might help, though.
