Lets not forget about resale value, because sometime in the your lifetime
(or at the end of your lifetime) the car will change hands... sure you can
save $2000 by going with an MGB motor, but an MGA is a car where originality
nuts are beginning to command more for a proper numbers matching car.  That
MGB motor WILL count against you when you attempt to sell it, and may be an
even greater loss than the $2000 you would be saving to begin with by using
an MGB engine.

However, if you go put $2000 of period performance goodies on your 1600 MGA
motor, the value will increase.  Be it an HRG head and Weber manifolds, or a
Judson supercharger.  People like period accessories, they'll get you cool
points, make your car reasonably faster, without compromising the
originality completely.  And they will not devalue your car, as an engine
transplant will.
