The 7th Annual British Car Swap Meet & Autojumble, sponsored by the
Chicagoland MG Club, will take place this year from 8 AM to 3PM, on
February 23, at the DuPage County Fairgrounds in Wheaton, Illinois.
This suburban location is about 25 miles due west of downtown Chicago,
and all swap spaces are indoors.
This event has the support and participation of all the British car
clubs (and there's a bunch of 'em) in Chicago - consequently, "for sale"
items are available for all kinds of British cars. Last year, over 800
shoppers patronized the wares of some 90 vendor spots during the day;
this year's count is already shaping up to be higher. Buyers and
vendors alike come from throughout the midwest - not just Chicago;
vendors already registered include such well known suppliers as Little
British Car Co, Triple C, TSI, British Wiring and author Burt Levy.
Buyers will also find those rare parts and incredible bargains that
appear every year after a long hibernation in the back of someone's
garage or basement.
Last month, almost every British car club in the midwest received
information about this event. This week, 1200 area British car owners
received reminder post cards, and next week ads will appear in the
classified section of newspapers in Chicago, Indianapolis, Milwaukee,
Rockford, Peoria, the Quad Cities and St Louis. This event has already
been publicized in Hemmings, Old Cars, Auto Restorer, Skinned Knuckles
and others enthusiast publications.
Any British car owner would enjoy this event and any owner within
reasonable distance should seriously consider attending. In the past,
some out-of-town clubs have made it a group trip; there are several
local motels to facilitate this situation. Many swap meet participants
also attend the huge "Model Car & Toy Show" that goes on simultaneously
at the same location (separate admission required).
