I also have the Ignitor and like it a lot. It came with the car.

A couple of things.
1. Late 70s cars have 6 volt coils instead of 12, and are ballasted.
I don't think the ignitor wants that.

However, since Mike said he had points and a 25D4 in his '79, the
distributor has obviously been changed. My guess is that the coil
has been changed and the ballast resistor removed.

If not the Pertronix flame thrower or the Lucas sport coils are good
choices.

2) The ignitor is not a mildly racy. It's good reliable street 
performance. Mike might want to look at the Crane electronic ignition.

3) Don't go back to the stock distributor (45D is it?) or either of
the factory electronic ignitions.

4) For stock-to-mildly racy performance, I think the Mallory dual points
setup would be overkill.
