Mmmm. Yup. Back and bruised and sore. The Victor got hit last Wednesday at
4:30 PM.

I was stopped to turn left, signalling with lights AND hand, when a 16 year
old kid driving a Jeep Cherokee slammed into the back of the MG, doing
$5000 worth of damage to the car and knocking the living crap out of me.

His driving license was three weeks old and obviously undeserved. He didn't
notice me; he was day-dreaming along at 5 to 10 miles per hour over the
limit, so when the traffic all went into the right lane to avoid being
trapped behind me, he just stayed in the left lane and, thankful everybody
had got out of his way, accelerated . . . right into the back of my car.

I had just installed a brand new soft top (now ripped) and brand new
bumpers (the rear one looks like a badly-made pretzel now). The fiberglass
TF body is smashed like an egg; the side curtains and corner curtains were
in the rear storage area and they are bent-up now. It ripped the spare tyre
carrier off the frame and that wheel and tyre are toast now, along with the
carrier.

To add mortal insult to injury, I had obtained classic insurance from
Haggarty for the Victor Special and my Mini Cooper, which was "pending" at
the time of the collision. Now Haggarty has refused to honour the policy
and has cancelled my coverage. They say they were snooping on the web and
saw that I had had a wreck in the Victor.

Personally, I think this stinks. I was not to any stretch of the facts
responsible for the collision; my car was stationary, waiting to turn left,
with light and hand signals being utilized. The damages will be repaired at
the expense of the kid's insurers. It looks a lot like Haggarty thinks
cancelling me will get them off the hook if the kid's insurers try to
weasel out. If so, they are grievously in error, since Oklahoma law says
otherwise, which opens up the possibility of a multimillion dollar bad
faith suit. My agent said, "I used to like Haggarty, but not any more."

My attorney is researching the relevant statutes to see what can be done
with them.

Whoever dealt with me at Haggarty didn't know what a Morris Cooper was,
thought it was some kind of MG replica, then didn't even bother to sign the
letter they sent saying my coverage was rescinded. For a classic and
antique insurance carrier, that's serious incompetence.
