If you really want to clean the valve you need to remove the cover from the
float chamber. Extremely simple, all you need is a flat-bladed screwdriver.
Detach the fuel line and overflow hose (if present), and remove the three
screws. The rest is as Phil describes below. You will probably find some
gunk in the bottom of the chamber, too.

Any engine oil will do.
