Indeed they are.  Windows are that wonderful revolution in car design. 
Imagine, if you will, a piece of glass between yourself and the crazy
driver in the SUV or trapped out Civic next to you.

Tired of the world being too near?  Just roll up the window.   You can
even use these newfangled "roll-up" windows even when the top is safely
stowed (or folded) away.  Sure an eight inch of glass isn't much more
than a tiny bit of plastic, but when you rap on it with a knuckle, you
can feel and hear the difference!

I've even heard that now some cars come with electric windows.  Can you
imagine windows that go up and down on their own?  Amazing!
