Many years ago I spent a few years in Malaya and recently by chance I stumbled over a manufacturer of LED bulbs. I know they make them for some torch (flash light) applications so I asked if they did BA9s and E-10 sockets. The reply was that they can do anything (hmmmmm?) Would anyone be interested in LED bulbs for brake lights, gauges etc etc - I do not think they do headlights!!!! They have a life of about 11 years and use 1/10 the current.
