For running you only need power on the white for the coil and fuel pump.
But if the alternator is connected when running you must have a battery
connected, which you will need for cranking anyway. Not electrical but the
oil gauge must be plumbed in or oil will pee all over the place, and if not
North American the temp gauge sender will need to be screwed in.

Before cranking the battery must be connected to ground and to the solenoid,
and the engine or gearbox ground strap must be connected. As an absolute
minimum you can then bridge the battery cable and operate spade on the
solenoid to crank the engine.

But it will be easier to connect up a few things so you can start it from
the comfort of the cabin, operate the choke, and possibly watch the gauges.
For this the browns will need to be connected to the battery cable at the
solenoid, ignition switch and starter relay. Connect whites at the ignition
switch, tach (two wires), coil and fuel to supply power for running - you
will need to connect the white in the rear loom to the double bullet
connector in the main loom by the fusebox for the pump. Connect the
white/red from the ignition switch to the starter relay W1 terminal, a
ground to the relay W2 terminal, a brown to the relay C1 terminal, and a
white/brown from the relay C2 terminal to the solenoid operate spade. This
will allow you to turn on the ignition, crank, run, and switch off. Make
sure the browns for the main lighting switch and fusebox are not flapping
about and liable to short to ground before connecting the battery.

Other refinements are to connect the warning light brown/yellow and brown to
the alternator and this should allow it to charge when it is running. For
gauges you will need a fuse between the green and white wires in the
fusebox, green and black wires connected to the tach, green to the voltage
stabiliser, light-green/green from the voltage stabiliser to the fuel gauge,
green/black from the fuel gauge to the tank sender, and a black ground on
the sender. If North American spec you will also need the light-green/green
to go to the temp gauge and a green blue from the gauge to the sender on the
block.
