The engine in this car is 1800 cc. In 4th, figure 18 MPH/ 1000 RPM,
and in OD, use 22 MPH / 1000 RPM. Thus 3300 RPM = 66 MPH, 3500 RPM = 77.
You can cruise as fast as you think the law allows w/o causing harm to
an engine that's in good condition.
If you run 3300 rpm in OD, figure fuel consumption to be near 30 mpg.
If you use 25 mpg, you can err on the safe side when determining fillups.
MGBs had different tank volumes, depending on emissions requirements and
other factors, but in all you have at least 10 gallons you can use. At
250 miles, you will need a break, even if the car doesn't need fuel.
Check fluid levels at each stop until you learn its consumption.
The gearbox and OD use engine oil. For the OD, 30w is recommended by
many; 20-50 is OK also. The OD is dependent on having enough oil for its
proper operation, so remember to check its dipstick before you set out.
Fill only to full-don't overfill this, though it's easy to do. Rear axle
uses 90w.
Yours should be a good trip. I make regular 315 mile trips in my '72
GT.
