Wrap a chain around the xmember and thru the coils of
the spring so that it is contained. Stand on top of
the xmember and to the inside of the spring pan, then
loosen the trunnion(?) bolts. Your weight and the
chain will hold the spring in the pan. You don't want
to wind the chain too tight. You want a little bit of
slack in the chain so that the spring fully expands
->SLOWLY<-. I've done this twice. It sounds riskier
than it is. A rope will work in place of the chain,
but I like the chain better.
