Although the Datsun car naming seems to vary from country to country, there
were BMC licensed engines made by Datsun.

The early Datsun Bluebird (in NZ) had a Datsun produced 'A' series unit.
The car known locally as the 180B had a Datsun produced 'B' series engine.

Whether or not all parts are interchangeable, I don't know. I have heard
rumours that the head stud layout on the 180B is different.

It is a pity that the licensing agreement was not two way - A Mini with a
Datsun A15 engine, an MGB with a 25DET twin cam twin turbo?

mechanics in Savannah who were SCCA racing the rather new Datsun 510. They
swore that the 510's 4-cyl engine was a direct copy of the B's engine, with
a few refinements.
