I did this with the engine insitu.
Best is to have the starter motor out.
Beware when remounting the starter motor, that the ignition cap clamps are 
kept upwards, otherwise you've to remove the starter again and get the 
clamps up again.
Been there twice - nasty job.
Good to put the car on a car "bridge" for easy access.
