Overdrive oil pump trick

I know it was recently discussed, but a search of the archives did not find the 
answer.

How do you replace the overdrive oil pump while the transmission is still in 
the car?  There is a roller, a spring, and a base piece that have to be 
compressed to go in, but there's not much space to do it.
