Have you seen http://www.mgbmga.com/tech/mgb25.htm - the first listing on
Google enquiry '18v casting numbers'? Quotes 12H2923 as the head casting
number for an 18V672/673 i.e. for North America from 72 to 74. As a Gold
Seal rebuild this would originally have been painted gold and the engine
number prefix would have been 48G 737 and not 18V 672/673. This gold seal
replacement is also for 18V 584/585 engines used in North America in 71 and
72.
