Thanks Paul.

Do all remote-servo-equipped MGBs have the air valve in this apparently
daft position near the top, or is it just my DPO? Looking at the
Clausager "Original MGB" book the servo shown there (in a car absolutely
identical to mine, a '73 Black Tulip BGT!), the servo is the same way
round mine was. The only other two engine bay shots showing a remote
servo (a '75 and a V8) both also have the same orientation, although the
brake line routing is a little different. Which looks pretty conclusive
that this was the standard orientation - but why? I can't believe MG
didn't realise/discover that this could cause brake bleeding
difficulties? Maybe the reason will become apparent when I try to
re-orient mine - I can already tell that it will put the brake line
input connection in a damned awkward position.

Reorientation of the air valve also helps prevent the brakes sticking
on.
Chris Betson advises mounting the servo so that it is at or nearly at
the bottom and so is kept lubricated with fluid by removing the air
bubble.

Later, just out of curiosity, I started leafing through the instructions
that came with the servo. They said, quite explicitly, that it should
be mounted with the cylinder pointing up at between 30 and 45 degs, and
rotated so that the air valve was at least 30 degs below horizontal TO
AID WITH BLEEDING...
