In the SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) DC (District of Columbia)
region I ran my '74 B-GT (model B, Grand Touring) in FSP (F-Street
Prepared) for a while and then dropped in a Peter Burgess engine to take
it up a notch to SM2 (Street Modified, 2 Seater). I sometimes beat out
the Miatas in Stock, which is all that mattered. Occasionally I could
get a fourth in SM2, but only if a couple of the better drivers were
elsewhere that particular weekend.

BTW (By the way), I have put my ride back into weekly duty as a commuter
80 miles RT (Round Trip). The cost of gas put the gas hog SUV (Sport
Utility Vehicle) to second chair. The B-GT is significantly lowered,
stiffened, and re-bushed in stiff compound. I would have to say that if
I were starting over for a dedicated commuter I would not change a thing
about the stock B suspension beyond perhaps a modest amount of spring
and shock stiffening and a larger anti-roll bar. Still, it's nice to
get about 25 mpg (miles per gallon) and the car brings joy to an
otherwise cruddy part of the day.

(Ric - I also had a couple Opel GTs. Opels may be the closest thing to
a Brit car ever built by a German company - until the Mini, anyway.)

My apologies to the list. This was intended to be copied to another
address
beginning with "M" that was adjacent to "MGs" in my address book. An
inadvertent slip of the mouse caused it to be copied here. These are
indeed
abbreviations for SCCA Solo (autocross) classes and other lingo. This
was
meant to go to our Solo Rules Director and newsletter editor as we
correct
and compile event results for our web page. Sorry again for the off
topic
post but just to satisfy Bert and other's curiosity those terms
translate to:

ES - E Stock
DSP - D Street Prepared
DFL - Dead F_______ Last
STS - Street Touring S
SOTY - Soloist Of The Year

If you are interested in learning more about the sport please feel free
to
contact me off list.

Just to bring this a bit more on topic I _am_ curious as to how many
others
out there compete in Solo or autocross events with your MG's... I've
been
autocrossing for 36 years now since starting out with a '62 997cc Morris

Cooper and have been competing in my '71 MGB for over 20 years. (I'll
just
skip over the years in between dodging cones in my '73 Opel Manta
Rallye...) <G>
