But you have one of those -- it's called a dipstick.  ;-)

But seriously, you obviously meant "in real time". I suppose the problem
with that is that the oil in the sump sloshes around quite a bit, so that it
would be very hard to get a consistent reading. Maybe with the right kind of
baffle in the pan around the pickup.
