MGA must be different to MGB then.  In that it's only the clutch cover =
springs (that grip the friction plate between pressure plate and =
flywheel and so give drive) that push the release arm back and the =
push-rod and piston into the slave cylinder as you release the pedal.  =
Maybe someone has fitted a pull-off spring to the release arm to protect =
the release bearing, or maybe the MGA has one anyway.

If it has suddenly gone very light, and grinds in all gears, then the =
release bearing or something associated with it has broken, and the =
engine will have to be separated from the gearbox.
