Liam,

Wow, thanks for the offer of the cherry picker and an extra hand.  At  
this point I think I need to keep it simple and drive until I really  
have to pull the car off the road to fix something serious like a  
major oil leak or gearbox.  I am enjoying driving it too much to pull  
it to pieces unless I have to!

On that note, how do you recommend I discover if the tappet vent pipe  
is clear?  Getting to the top end looks tough at first glance without  
removing the carbs.  At least the bottom end appears NOT to be full  
of road debris.  Can I assume it is unlikely to be plugged further  
up? What would be plugging it? What next?

Care to rendezvous for you to test drive the car and give me some  
feedback on the condition of the gearbox?
