I thought that's why you put vinyl on a house - so you didn't have to paint 
it!

I agree with Dave, don't know if you can paint it.  I'd say talk to either
a vinyl siding supplier, or a paint store.

Next, for the time and money, it might be almost as cost effective to just
have the house resided.
