One of the tricks I used to do (when a person would call you) was to
pretend like I was really interested in what they were selling. The
conversation would go like...

Caller-"Hello, have you thought about vinyl siding?"
Me-"I can't believe it, yes I was. Hold on, let me find the remote and
turn off the TV."

Then I would just continue watching TV until they hung up. Every now and
then I would pick up the phone and say, "I can't find this stupid remote.
I'm sorry, hold on."

I would see how long I could keep them going.

Recently, if a person does call, I simply, and very politely ask, "Why do
you do a job that makes eveyone hate you? Really, do you enjoy getting
these calls? What makes you think anyone else does? Are you parents
proud that you have a job annoying people in their homes?" and I go on.

BTW, back in the 90's, I put up this site on my website... It was "Fight
Back!" a place to share ways to annoy telemarketers or junk mail.

The stories are still there, and will be as long as I'm alive!
