Heheheh I think this might be a little of an optimistic
definition!

We all would like to imagine a situation where the car
is about to roll over, so we deftly tuck our head under the dash
on the passenger side, roll 17 times, then stride out
confidently to assess the damage.

In reality, I think it's a little closer to "giving your
body a place to go". Rather than having the five point
harness and the whole car balanced on the bloody stump
that was your neck, at least you can be knocked aside
and find yourself alive when the jaws of life get
to work.
