First off is the sound worse with higher rpms or speed? If you chainge up a
gear does it get better?

For higher speed read.

The wine may well continue even if it is the box. The box still goes round
with the clutch in. I would think twice before condeming the Diff though.
To me it sounds like a dry - damaged UJ or a loose mounting with somthing
rubbing. UJs can make a wining sound when they are passed it not
nesseceraly associated with clunking.

Stabbing on the power should definatly not make the sound worse if its the
diff. A diff generaly takes 10 or so thousand miles to go unless you have
know oil. Have you got oil in it? If it has suddenly lost oil the little
breather valve ontop of the diff may have become clogged up, theres a littel
sprung pin or somthing ontop the diff, just juggle it with your fingers to
clear the blockage. The breather allows pressure to exscape as temp
increses, if pressure builds then your oil finds the oil seals very
tempting.

The other posibility is a mount point broken or somthing like that, anyway
abit of the powertrain is out of alignment and rubbing.

For higher rpms

You have speaker in the back and you are getting Altinator noise.
You have somthing perculerar with your valves or something heard through the
exhaust.

If that made sence I am very suprised, I have been working on my
Dissertation full time for the past 5 days 14 hrs of work a day is bad.
