Hmmm.... lesseee. .... it's worth what a willing buyer would pay to a willing
seller, neither being under any compulsion to buy or sell.

It cost me about $750 to have a D-type o/d added (including the correct
shafts) and my (originally non-o/d) transmission rebuilt last year by John
Esposito (see Monster List of Vendors).  $750 was about what I was willing to
pay - more than that and I've have started looking for alternatives - less
than that and John would have made no (or less) money.  I'd certainly pay less
for a used one of unknown condition - maybe $450-$500?  In your case, I'd want
to know more about the condition of the trans and o/d and who rebuilt it with
parts from where.
