Why are they so rare in the UK???? I would think the name 'Spitfire' on a
car would be revered in the UK. After all it was one of the two main
fighter aircraft that saved England during the Battle of Britton (actually,
I believe the Hawker Hurricane shot down more German planes than the
Spitfire).

Of course for those Brits that agree with me this IS NOT an invitation for
you to start "scarfing up" Spitfires in the US and shipping them back to the
UK! :)

Fred,

I promise you there are more than 3 Spitfires in the UK! But I think their
rarity is part of their appeal. As you say, there are MGBs on every street
corner, but it isn't often that you come across a Spit - and because of
that, it
makes it so much better when you do!

Yep, I'm back. Spend 5 glorious weeks in the UK, touring the
northern islands to Iceland, Copenhagen, and Brussels. I said before
leaving I'd check out Spitfires.... Well I can tell you that there are
3 Spitfires in England & Wales! Or maybe it was the same blue one twice
and a yellow one.
Can't figure it out, what with the 20plus degree 2 weeks we
drove all over Wales and part of England, only the 3 spits, all MK IVs.
Nearly got swamped in MGBs, Morgans and a few other exotics, but no
Spits.
