Patrick:

I have a '73 Spitfire 1500 and went through this a few months ago. The
carbon canister on my car is mounted just to the right of the engine on the
passenger side. Mine is a single Stromberg carb.

I know that later cars have the canister mounted in front of the radiator.

Here's how mine is hooked up:

1. Canister intake closest to engine connects to fuel tank vent hose.

2. Center canister intake connects to valve cover breather hose and carb.

3. Outside canister intake connects to another carb breather.

4. Bottom canister hose connects to anti-run on valve. (larger diameter
hose)

5. Anti-run on valve connects to manifold vacuum.

Which all makes sense by sucking all the fumes through the top of the
canister, out the bottom and into the intake manifold. I had to buy a new
anti-run on valve as the terminals were broken off the old one. Be sure to
check the old electrical connectors that are dangling. The terminals from
the old anti-run on valve may have broken off and are still stuck in the
connectors. You'll just have to pry them apart a bit to release the broken
pieces.

Hope this helps. Let me know if I can answer any more questions.
