Greetings, Fellow Listers,

I spent a bit more time in the garage this afternoon looking at Rip's tub.
I've come to the conclusion that he is definitely twisted. With the top front
of the left door tight against the A pillar, the rear of the door is a press
fit to the B post. And there is a gap of 3/4" between the lower front
vertical edge of the door and the rocker. By comparing the rocker position to
that of Frank (the '74) it seems clear that the new rockers were mounted too
far forward. This also explains the somewhat strange appearance of the area
where they attach to the firewall. The right door is similar, but not as bad.
I feel like a bit of a fool for not seeing this before I bought the car. I
guess I was blinded a bit by the surprise of finding the car so close to home.
Anyway, Rip Van Spitfire will probably sleep some more until I have the money
to do him up right. Has anyone successfully straightened a tub like this, or
should I just plan on parting him out? I know fixing him won't be cheap, but
I hate to give up completely. Now my energies will once again focus on
getting Frank's engine rebuilt followed by suspension and interior work.
