My 74 non overdrive tranny has two substantial oil leaks, between the trans
and the extension shaft is the worst and at the end of the extension shaft.
Looks like I need to drain oil then 1. disconnect the drive line and the two
trans mounts, 2. prop up the trans for access, 3. unbolt at the end of the
output shaft, 1 bolt, assumably the main shaft stays put?, and withdraw the
output flange, 4. unbolt the output shaft from the trans gear housing, about
8 bolts, 5. withdraw the output shaft, 6. clean surfaces, 7. insert new oil
seal at end of input shaft, 8. reapply new gasket, with gasket cement?, 10.
reassemble.
Is this a complex operation, for any that have tackled it? Am I missing any
steps? Is it complex to replace my worn third gear syncro as an extra step
while I am tackling sealing these leaks?
Thanks
Rob
